The honest answer — from an Irish designer who has seen every timeline imaginable, from two years out to eight weeks before the wedding.

It is one of the most common questions brides ask — and one of the most anxiety-inducing, particularly for brides who feel they have left it too late. So let us answer it honestly, without the industry scaremongering.

What the Industry Generally Says

Most bridal designers and boutiques will tell you to start looking between 12 and 18 months before your wedding. Some of the most sought-after international design houses quote production timelines of 9 to 12 months alone — before you factor in shipping, alterations, and final fittings. Several well-known designers require orders to be placed at least a year in advance, and some considerably more.

This is not scaremongering — for certain designers, these timelines are genuine. The message is consistent across the industry: the earlier you start, the more options you have.

What We Say at Edwina O'Gorman

Our standard timeline is approximately six months from your appointment to your completed dress. That is a realistic, comfortable timeline that allows your gown to be made with care and without pressure.

Ideally, we would love to see you six to nine months before your wedding. It gives us the time we need to do our best work, and it gives you time to enjoy the process — which, if we do our job right, should feel like the easiest part of planning your wedding.

What If Your Wedding Is Sooner?

This is where Edwina O'Gorman differs from many designers.

We know that life does not always follow a neat timeline. Engagements happen spontaneously. Venues become available unexpectedly. Circumstances change. And some brides simply did not know about us until recently — which, if you are reading this at six months out, or four, or even less, is absolutely fine.

We cannot promise availability for every timeline — but we will always give you an honest answer, and we will always do everything we can to make it work.

A Simple Guide to Timelines

• 12+ months — Ideal. You have complete choice, total calm, and all the time in the world to enjoy the process.

• 9 months — Perfect. Our sweet spot. Book your appointment and you will have your dress with time to spare.

• 6 months — Absolutely fine. Our standard timeline. Book as soon as you can and we will take care of everything.

• 3–6 months — Get in touch. Contact us directly before booking. Rush orders are possible and we will do our best.

• Under 3 months — Still contact us. We cannot promise, but we will always try. The earlier you reach out, the better.

One Last Thing

Whenever you find us — whether you have 18 months or 18 weeks — the process is the same. One appointment with Edwina, approximately 90 minutes, at our private showroom in Dublin. You try on dresses, you find the one, your measurements are taken. That is it.
